woke up in cold sweat
different odds & ends are lost beneath the sofa cushions
due to circumstances out of my control
my head just wonβt stop spinning
more or less
and when i try to peel, it sticks
a window painted over bricks
i gave a mile and moved an inch
i feel the tape rewinding
just when the lightning fades away
torrential rain on this parade
iβm chewing gum without the taste
a pile of dirt with icing
threw them off the scent
when you leave just slip the key under the doormat
a path circuitous
but now, i can feel the clouds are closing in

Wilt in the Vase

so can we pick this up tomorrow
with the colander you borrowed
if i ask politely
i brought your tote bag back
the museum one with
the dinosaur fossils
got bent outta shape
you wipe the grin off my face
the nail thatβs missing a frame
fell out last night
got outta the way
just left to wilt in the vase
thatβs what Iβm trying to say
but thatβs alright
remarks echo slightly
coalescing in the air around me
you brought that blue shirt back
the thrifted one thatβs plaid
and ripped at the elbow

Past Tense

misting sad plants
sat around & thought it about it back then
it dawned on me while ironing my black pants
caramel macchiato in a trash can
iβm hanging up the phone left it unsaid
swishing violet mint killing bad breath
living in the past choosing instead
doing nothing sitting in the grass yeah
got me thinking about
i remember all the past tense
loose thread on your jacket
button wouldnβt fasten
walking back with groceries
while my 2 ear buds bleed
about the rising seas
& all the air we breathe
in slow motion like molasses
silverware in plastic
reflected in your glasses
staring down at anything
the coffee table rings
and other furnishings
from 1993
i never wrote this off

Alligator
02:30
|

shifting in my seat
waterfall of agitation washing over me
my watch wonβt tell the time
but i hope iβll see the sign
thatβs another reason why
days go by
and iβll be fine without you
everythingβs a breeze
a spiritual force has commandeered the steering wheel
my watch wonβt tell the time
but i hope iβll see the sign
thatβs another reason why
days go by
and iβll be fine without you
stuck in heaven for a week
between alligator teeth
i canβt even fall asleep
in a snowglobe on repeat
heating up like hot glue
jittery around you
you turned my heart to shark food
theres nothing that i can do
woke up from a dream
where my shoes were sinking deeper into wet concrete
my watch wonβt tell the time
but i hope iβll see the sign
thatβs another reason why
days go by
and iβll be fine without you
